The 2025 NCHA Super Stakes derby division proved to be a strong showing for the first crop of Metallics MVP offspring—both in the arena and through the debut of the Metallics MVP Incentive Program.
Strong Performances Across the Board
From the outset, MVP’s progeny stood out. In the first go-round of the Open Derby, As Im Is, shown by Lee Francois and owned by Barbara Reeder, marked a 219.5, and Pump the Breaks, owned by cows & horses etc and shown by Grant Setnicka, posted a 219!
Every Metallics MVP that advanced to the second go-round, did so ranking in the top 30% of the entire leaderboard, a clear reflection of their competitiveness among an elite group.
Another standout was Country Money, owned by Slate River Ranch and shown by John Mitchell. Their performance led the group of MVPs heading into the Open Derby Semi-Finals!
Launching the Metallics MVP Incentive
This year’s NCHA Super Stakes also marked the launch of the Metallics MVP Incentive Program, which paid out $120,000 (on top of regular winnings) across two divisions—one for breeders and one for offspring owners.
- In the Offspring Division, As Im Is, owned by Barbara Reeder and shown by Wes Reeder, earned the top payout of $40,000
- Spookys Fabio, shown by Niki Barnes and owned by Jeff Barnes, claimed the second payout of $20,000
- In the Breeder Division, She’s a Little Freak, owned by Levisay Farms and shown by Monty Buntin, was the champion after advancing all the way to Open Derby Finals, earning $40,000
- Second place went to Cricket Reyzin Cash, owned by Dawn Chapman and shown by Mike Wood, this team brought home $20,000
As Im Is: A Breakout Year
Beyond his incentive win, As Im Is and Wes Reeder had an impressive run—winning the Intermediate Amateur Derby, making the finals in the Amateur Derby, and pushing their lifetime earnings past $140,000. It’s an exceptional start for a young horse and a strong example of the potential MVP is passing on.
